How does average speed relate to maximum speed?

My average is 60 wpm (66* 60 54* 64 54 63 61). Out of seven, I dropped the highest and lowest and averaged the remaining 5.

My record for TyperA is 68 wpm.

My average is 88 percent of my record (Record divided by Average times 100).

Please post your results. I'm curious how average speed compared to record speed varies from typist to typist.

Update: a week or so after post:
I think I was on a roll when I tested my average speed. Day to day, I see more 50's than sixties and would guess (finding the patience for typing research is difficult) my average is around 55:

That's 78% of my record (about half as close to record speed as the first calculation: four fifths instead of nine tenths).
