I'm 21 and type around 100 wpm in English/Dvorak. I've been plateauing for a long time, but haven't made much of an effort to advance. I remember plateauing at about 70 WPM in English/QWERTY when I was about 17.
Heh.... And that was INSANELY fast to most people back then.

my writing is a little bit slower than yours, because I write in Slovak
and we have more letters than you do
(english alphabet has 26 letters, german alphabet has 30 letters, slovak alphabet has 48 letters)
=o) and we use the punctuation very often, since we have a very colorful and happy language. :D
I have around 450 letters per minute. (the word count is lame, because a word isn't a constant for me, but rather a variable)
I did not learn the touchtyping at school, I learned it by myself. Is not hard, but needs time to practise. :D

I'm 19 and my all-time best is 642 (128 wpm). I think that was about a year ago, so I'd say that I've plateaued for the time being. My average is about 115, though. I type in English on a QWERTY keyboard.

Im 12 and I type 293 keys per minute = 58 words per minute. Weird though because my school has a program that teaches you to type and it says I type around 148 words per minute o_O. I also noticed lots of typing errors in the game though and some punctuation threw me off so I guess that's why :D

i'm 19 years old.
In dutch I type around 600 to 650 keys per minute. (can't find the exact numbers on this site?)
In school i've got touch typing lessons when i was 11 or 12 years old. Back then i had something around 400 keys per minute (shoud search for the diplome they gave me for the exact numbers).

I remember in middle school me and my friend competed in our typing class.
My teacher said we were the fastest he had ever had... Me and my friend were doing 210+ wpm with the program he taught with.
Now fast forward 5 years later I'm only doing like 83 wpm on this program.
But then again I haven't been practicing and this is my first day testing my typing speed in a LONG time.

After a long time, I've discovered typerA again!
The last time, I was registered here, I managed up to ~330kpm.
Last week, I finally cracked the 400! 417 (83 words) in German sentences.
My words skills were slower though - only 415 (83 words) in German words. ó_0
I've begun to learn the NEO-Layout again, currently having reached 117kpm in German words with that. Yeah, way to go that is... But I'm very optimistic, that the flow will finally come like with qwertz - even without any tutor :P
Edit: One day later, I just got 136 kpm XD ()

Interesting enough, I have mastered the hunt and peck method, however its more just like sharp pecks because I do not need to look at my QWERTY keyboard, I do not even know home row. I do it with two fingers, use my pinky for backspace, thumbs for space, right ring finger for enter, middle finger on right hand for shift and other things like numbers, other hand is the same, left hand middle finger for shift/tab, left ring for caps lock and the pinky just sits there unless I need to press control.
Because I do not do the home row method and am faster than all my teachers by far I've had in Multimedia and such, I have hard time in Media unless I can show her my way is efficient and helping me progress in the activities.
My average of 130 WPM is achieved by simply just typing anything like I type now, I usually make 2 mistakes in a sentance or less but are corrected in a portion of a sentance. It is a result of typing too fast with not enough precision, if I aim my hands up wards though I can make 0 mistakes in a paragraph. My highest score, 163, was typing a standard sentance which went like this
she; jgh; llqq; . . , ; , Ambidextrous ;; The police found the burglar;;(2 AM)
or something like that, mainly gibberish with a lot of keystroke patterns and grammar involved.

Lol same with me. I type faster than my teachers too. My teacher in 6th grade was trying to beat me once and she only got about 65 wpm. I was doing around 108. I haven't typed that fast in a long time, maybe in the future I will again

I'm 25 years old and I maxed out my typing speed for many years at 125wpm on QWERTY.
I have switched to near exclusive dvorak use about 1 year ago and I'm back up to around 100 wpm so far. I really enjoy dvorak.
When I was typing 125wpm my fingers would flow all over the place, it was very active. Now, my hands have to move far less.
I agree with the above posts that homerow is a good guide, but eventually you find slightly altered placement for your hands that works for you. I liken it to guitar. People generally benefit from starting with 'proper' technique, but as they become more masterful they eventually find an altered style.

Oh my. I thought I was fast, but coming to this forum changed my mind, totally! I'm finnish 15 year-old-girl and my best is now 471 kpm, what makes about 94 wpm (2 minutes, finnish). I'm typing with 10 fingers, and I just can't understand how someones can type faster like with 6 fingers! Well, gotta do it better by practising. :)

and I'm 27...
But when I learned touch typing a long time ago, I got used to always using the left shift-key for all capital letters. I think it slows me down on the sentences but I try to force myself to use the right shift as well.
The biggest problem for me is concentration. I think I can type much faster for a short time but then my mind starts wandering and I start making mistakes.

Been typing pretty fast for the last 10 years but when I first started out with TyperA I got scores around 500. So for some reason I seem to be improving. A couple of months ago I struggled to reach over 600. Now I'm always faster than that, and usually score upwards 700. Guess it's most mentally. Keeping the same speed continually and not dropping in the last 10 to 20 seconds or so.

I'm 36 and got 446 chars/min (don't know the wpm anymore) on dutch sentences. My accuracy was 95% if I remember well.
I only tried once and I think I can reach almost 500 on a good day.
I see that everybody here has very impressive typing speeds. So my conclusion is that these typists are not the average people I work with (I work as computer programmer). There I'm the only one who can reach a decent speeds. Most do (slow) 2 fingering typing.

Mostly I write over 300 keys and over 60 words a minute (german sentences). In english sentences I write about 260 keys a minute.
My best was 1786 keys in german sentences in 5 minutes (with a special programm) =>357 keys a minute (with just 4 misstakes). I never learing typing correct but I write with ca. 10 fingers.
For you guys: Try typing with one hand. It's very interesting and it does make sence, for example if you have a phone call ,-)

I'm 44... yes 44 - god, everyone here is so young and way better than me.
I hunt and peck at around 80wpm so decided to take up touch typing to see how I would improve. In the first week I was around 20wpm and a year later, after trying it again on and off i was upto 40wpm.
Now, I'm becoming more disciplined and trying to work out a set of exercises to put myself through to improve my speed in an efficient way. If I do these exercises once a day, then I should be able to gradually improve better. I can play classical guitar and know the secret is to practise slooooooooooooooooooooooooowly, gradually building up the speed.
I think the main reason why there are so many young people here that are, let's be honest, brilliant at such a young age is down to the times spent practising. And just as it takes years of practise to be able to write efficiently, so it is with typing.

Umm, hey ppl, I've been around for awhile. Hadn't noticed the forum though, my apologies for that...
Anyway, I got my first PC at 18yo, started typing at 20 but my technique was poor. However, some 3-4 years ago I switched to 9 fingers and right now I have more endurance and can score 600+ cpm even on very very very long texts - but there's not much fun in typing all day long :(
In fact, all I wanna say is 'hi everyone, nice to meet you and keep it up' !
Maybe I'll come back, maybe I won't...

I am 23yrs my speed mayn't that bad in English 157words per-minute and 35 per minute i try so had to have error in ma work and that's keeps me going and the courage to be more faster than ever.
so far i read most colleagues and i have got to believe that some a really better than me and i wonder how but i will be like them some day

Early teens and apparently I type at 50 wpm, but I can go up to 130 on other sites like typerracer, 10fastfingers, and nitrotype.

I'm 15, I can top out at 110 sometimes, but I have a maintained pace of about 80 wpm, 100% accuracy. If the words I am typing are a bit more complicated, I might go down to about 70. I type in English QWERTY and I'm self taught (just from playing lots and lots of video games at a younger age lol)

and peak speed was 61
and going to make 60 wpm in 30 days
and that's average

Hello everybody, I am playing here since 2016 now and then.
I'm 21 now, I come from Germany and learned 10-finger-typing in school with fiellascript.
My best was 311 keys or 62 words per minute, at German Phrases (2 min).
In my opinion the phrases are the best training, for they contain Upper- and lowercase words, punctuation, abbreviations and numbers, just like the real texts we have to type in real life out there.

I'm 34 now. My record is 668kpm/133 wpm on typera (English sentences, on Qwerty).
I learned Dvorak for a while and it didn't help.
I suppose I could try another keyboard, but...too complicated. You go to another computer and you're stuck. Best to stick with the standard.

I am 21 years of age...
I type around 35 words per minute average with very high accuracy...
If I am on a tryhard level ignoring my accuracy I type around 100 wpm with 90% accuracy...

I'm 37 and I can reach 95-100wpm on a good day, a bit worried because
~10 years ago when I was at my peak I was doing 130-140 wpm with high accuracy and now it takes me several tries to get to 90+ without typoing a lot, I wonder if this is age related or some underlying condition that is progressively making me less coordinated?
