But there is a Handicap for Swiss users. We dont use Letter "ß" when we type here. We use "ss" instead. So it would be great if you could implement Swiss German Words/Sentences into typera.tk

Comment: Excellent site! The only thing I miss are some further statistics. It would be nice to see how the typing speed developes in the 1 or 2 minutes, which words are critical, and maybe a value that indicates how fluently one types. You may imagine some other improvements in that direction.

I'm surprised that there's no notation of the keyboard layout in use by highscorers (i.e. QWERTY, AZERTY, Dvorak, Capewell, Colemak etc. etc.) Unless I'm missing something?

Comment: Cool thingy this typing challenge. I'm not sure what is the best way to type, but I hate it that here you have to concentrate on one single word at a time, and not, say, a full sentence... I type 360 correct characters per minute in real life, but I have to delete a few after pressing space every now and then. On this site I get at most 320 or so, because it is not possible to return to the previous word. And then the next word is already broken, when I have typed "2 backspaces"+the correct last character of the previous word... And it takes time to realize the situation, fix it, and then go on reading the following words because they have been forgotten due to the disturbance. Maybe I'm not thinking correctly about how one should type, though... which might be a revelation given to me by trying this one out... maybe it brings me over the 400 limit... Whatever the case be, it's disturbing that only one word is highlighted at a time. Maybe a display customization option on your wishlist? But yeah; very nice site!

Comment: I just changed my keyboard layout from QWERTY to a Swedish version of Dvorak and think this site is really good for training yourself to master the new layout. Though I must say, I think some of the Swedish sentances contains too many old-fashioned words, and that's making your results slightly less accurate since you never use those words. Words you often type is easier to type.

I managed to pull 611 keys/minute late last night when my fingers were textured just right (a lot of it has to do with how clean they are and the type of keyboard I'm using). I use a Microsoft Natural Pro Keyboard, which is ergonomic QWERTY. Right now I'm using a straight QWERTY Dell econo-model, the one that has absolutely no edges to the keyboard except the bare minimum space required by all the keys. It really sucks, hurts my wrists, and I only pulled 542 keys per minute. BOOO!!

Comment: I visited many different sites looking for a way to evaluate my typing speed. This was by far the best site I encountered. Other sites require you to use your mouse to terminate the test (which would give you a lower score, of course), or they don't accept pressing the space bar when a line wraps to the next line, or they penalize you for using two spaces between sentences (which most Americans are trained to do from the time that they start learning to type), or they don't allow you to use the backspace at all. This site definitely has the best algorithm for evaluating typing speed out of any of the sites that I have seen. Thank you!

I have a friend who does close captioning and that is all short hand. She can type 750 wpm.

There are some (well quite some actually) mistakes in the dutch sentences. Sometimes words that should be separated are together, so if you read it you know there should be a space and sometimes you've already pressed it till you realise it's different

Maybe they're just trying to type as fast as they can, but it doesn't help for the rest of us, who are trying to read fluent english. Oh well, I guess the English language has to take a beating to the groin sooner or later.

On a more positive note, this site is really really interesting...If JavaScript were more powerful, I wonder what else this thing could do.

Comment: Of all the many sites I searched for a typing test; well over a million found; this is the one I like the best.

Another item I found to improve my typing is a little game called: 10 Finger Break Out. Lots of fun. Good practice for this site.

Well, Booboy is not from Netherlands but Sheboygan, Wisconsin and apparently they have to use TyperA at school. Comment: I just found this site while searching through some ancient posts in my forum. I must say, I really love this site. I've always wanted to know exactly how fast I can type, and now I have a pretty good idea. I'm 14 and I do 70-71 WPM (at the moment) and I'm actually pretty proud of that. :) I'll come back for sure and keep practicing, and someday I know I'll be one of the fastest people around. :)

Comment: so yesterday i got into this page and now i can't stop playing. i play finnish words/sentences, and my best result so far is 357cpm/71wpm with words. i'm trying to advance above 400cpm and wondered if people here are into that dvorak keyboard? the top scores here are just unbelieveable imo. and big thanks to jouko for his great site!

Comment: I seem to be pretty good at typing... Ranking 26th right now in the Dutch sentences chart with 401WPM :) Some of the top-ranking people have over 700WPM?! How can that possibly be? That's over 10 words per second! Roger says: not possible. Nice site dude, keep up the good work :)

Comment: Hmmm... I've been messing around with this thing for like 3 hours as something to do between talking to my friends on AIM... does that make me crazy? I have improved my all time high by like 12 WPM but still... does that justify three hours of typing practice?? I THINK SO!!! By doing this enough not only do you get to be a really great typist but you would eventually become the wisest man ever!!! That thing will spit out some pretty profound sentences dude!! Like, "To get anything done a committee must be no more than 3 people, two of them absent." That's hillarious and smart!! I love whoever put together these sentences!
